Our travel itineraries have been carefully curated to provide a balanced mix of exploration, cultural activities, and time to relax and breathe in the beauty of Costa Rica. This is a unique experience, off the beaten path. The entire trip is personally hosted and we stay at boutique, independently-owned hotels for all of our tours.
Sample Trip Itinerary
Arrival day – Welcome to Costa Rica! We will be waiting for you upon your arrival into San José International airport to take you to the hotel. You can spend the afternoon unwinding by the pool or taking in the panoramic views of three volcanoes at this mountaintop hotel. At the welcome dinner, we will give you an overview of the trip for the week.
Day 1 – Turrialba
We will hike through a shaded coffee farm to a waterfall and have lunch at a hidden gem of a restaurant overlooking the beautiful landscape. In the afternoon, you can relax at the hotel or venture out on a tour to explore the area. We will host a coffee/cocktail hour that includes beer from a local brewery before dinner.
Day 2 – Sabalito
We will be staying at a beautiful sustainable lodge in the mountains on one of the first organic coffee farms in Costa Rica. The day will be spent taking in the mountain air, walking around the trails on the coffee farm by the stream, or relaxing on the porch in one of the locally-made leather rocking chairs. There will be an optional yoga class before the cocktail hour and dinner at the Lodge restaurant.
Day 3 – Sabalito
After a typical Tico breakfast of gallo pinto, eggs, tropical fruit, and freshly roasted coffee from the farm, we will take a walking tour of the coffee farm and processing plant. On offer for the afternoon is a Costa Rican style cooking class hosted by the Lodge’s amazing chef.
Day 4 – Sabalito/Manuel Antonio
We will have an early morning birding and wildlife tour with the naturalist at the Lodge. After one last delicious meal and amazing cup of coffee (or two) at the farm, we will head to the beach for a couple of days. We will meet for dinner early to catch the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean.
Day 5 – Manuel Antonio
In the morning, we will head to the national park to see some monkeys, coatis, iguanas, and hopefully sloths, if we’re lucky. The afternoon is yours to stay at the park, shop in the local market, or relax at the beach or pool. We will reconvene for dinner at one of the amazing local restaurants along the beach.
Day 6 – Manuel Antonio
This is our last beach day – and your day is completely up to you. There are no scheduled activities, but your host will be happy to provide suggestions and arrange activities or give for restaurants for lunch. We will meet for dinner and optional salsa dancing afterwards.
Day 7 –Manuel Antonio/San José
We will head out after lunch, driving along the Pacific Coast and stopping at the Tárcoles River to see wild crocodiles that often congregate under the bridge. We will arrive in San José in the early evening, content and relaxed, but maybe a little sad that the week is over already. Our trip will end with a closing dinner at the hotel.
Departure day – We will arrange shuttle service for you to the San José International airport in accordance with your flight schedule. We hope that you will keep in touch and come back to visit soon!
